One of the first sushi restaurants to settle in Toronto’s Beaches district, family-run Yumei Sushi Japanese Restaurant, has been welcoming patrons to its humble location since the early 1990s. Its crisp, clean atmosphere and friendly nature has made Yumei Sushi not only one of the neighbourhood’s, but one of the city’s more endearing restaurants.
Setting the Mood
Understanding that enjoying specialized cuisine is an overall experience that must incorporate atmosphere with the meal, Yumei Sushi offers guests a genuine Japanese encounter. Thanks to the Japan-inspired décor and traditional enka music setting a wonderful backdrop, one can enjoy—and possibly become lost in—an authentic Asian meal. Overall, the aura of Yumei Sushi is casual and laid back, however their inherent ability to unite mood and meal have garnered quite the amount of attention over the years. Weekends are consistently busy, necessitating reservations.
Grab a Seat
Once inside Yumei Sushi though, seating is arranged to provide the utmost comfort depending on the situation: double-daters and lovebirds generally gravitate towards the booths thanks to its intimacy and privacy, where families and casual diners enjoy the window tables in order to catch a view of the action unfolding along trendy Queen Street.
Quality and Quantity
While there are few guesses as to what Yumei Sushi offers on their menu thanks to the name, almost all of their dishes are of note, not only for quality but also portion size. All ingredients are fresh and served in large quantities with selections such as sushi and sashimi à la carte or in combinations as well as a variety of tempura and teriyaki. Naturally, fresh fish is Yumei Sushi’s specialty but the menu also boasts a range of both vegetarian and meat options.
