The World’s Biggest Bookstore occupies a colossal portion of Edward St. between Yonge and Bay, easily spottable with its enormous blocky storefront letters. The huge answer to Chapters and Indigo sells everything literary from genre fiction and non-fiction to magazines, text books, travel guides and puzzle tomes. The ground floor of two is home to fiction, magazines and few resource sections. Frequent readers should take a right and look for the bright “New and Hot” signage to find the new releases before entering the labyrinth of yellow and orange aisles conveniently organized by genre with sub-categories (i.e. Tolkien within Fantasy).
From Cooking to Political Science
The entire second floor is for non-fiction, text books and resource tomes put into general categories, which again are subdivided. Within Cooking you can find Canadian, International and Baking and Desserts sections, while martial arts, hockey and baseball are sub-groups of Sports. Can’t find what you’re looking for? Look for the “Welcome to our Kiosk” computer stations where you freely access the World’s Biggest database and even order books to the store (for free shipping).
And the Pulitzer Goes to…
The World’s Biggest has a few unique ways of cataloguing their material. One wall on the main floor is dedicated to literary award-winners, like the Pulitzers, Man Booker, Nebula and Governor General prizes, all segregated by year. They have numerous displays with kitschy titles like “There’s no Place like Home” and “for Sunday Afternoon” for specialty reading. In the Computer section of the first floor, gamers can find Brady strategy games for all the tougher videogames and the entire back room features loads of DVDs, anime flicks and TV box sets for when you want to set down the reading glasses.
