Italian, No Sweat
Located on the boisterous College Street Little Italy strip, it sure gets a lot less friendly than Vivoli. A family friendly and economical eatery, Vivoli has much of the same charm as its competitors – possibly more, with its down home approach to basic Italian cooking. Vivoli’s vibrant and elegant atmosphere features occasional live jazz acts, a “pizza bar,” and at the centre of it all, a wood burning oven for personal pizzas.
Fresh and Tasty
At Vivoli a standard Italian menu packs few surprises, but most surprising is its value, especially in light of some of the more inflated prices found throughout the neighbourhood. Couple that incentive with the simple, fresh ingredients used at Vivoli, and a winning combination is created – not to mention a tasty one. Indeed, a lot of care I used while crafting their versions of standard fare,
Italian Home Cooking
Inventive wood oven cooked pizzas are definitely a standout, as is the antipasto appetizer tray with marinated and roasted vegetables. Interesting features also include cold imported meats, seasonal cheeses, steamed mussels in a tomato cream sauce, marinated seafood salad, and a salad of ripe tomato and fresh mozzarella served on full basil leaves. Basic, fuss free pastas – likewise emphasizing fresh noodles, herbs, and cheese – form the backbone with a variety of combinations including chicken in a pesto cream sauce, and the house linguini with seafood in a white wine tomato sauce. Basic meat mains include grilled chicken breast seasoned with rosemary, 10 ounce Angus steaks and 17 ounce chops of tender veal. Pies and cakes are made fresh daily and are a delightful way to cap a meal of comfortable Italian home cooking, be it inside, outside, or on the terrace in between.
