Italy Inspired
After first taking Quebec by storm, Vinnie Gambini’s Ristorante & Bar has established itself in Ontario. Situated within the “city above Toronto” in Vaughan, Vinnie Gambini’s recreates the essence of old world Italy by way of carefully-maintained atmosphere and culinary offerings. A family-style joint, replete with Corinthian pillars, can accommodate up to 275 guests in the dining room, bar area, and outdoor terrace. The fare reflects the chef’s travels through Italy, taking inspiration from the flavours of Milan, Venice, and Rome.

An extensive list of pasta dishes spans the familiar and classic plates of spaghetti with meat sauce, fettuccini alfredo, tortellini, penne romanoff, and capelli primavera. Pasta al forno (which means oven-baked pasta) features canneloni, manicotti, and lasagna, as well as the less conventional rotolo campagnola (rolled pasta with sausage, broccoli, and ricotta, topped with tomato sauce and mozzarella) and fazzolleti frutti di mare (pasta stuffed with crab, shrimp, scallops, and ricotta). And then there are several pasta specialties, like the rigatoni martino (chicken breast tenderloins, prosciutto, shallots, mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes, basil, and goat cheese in a white wine-garlic-oil sauce).

Of course, the menu at Vinnie Gambini’s is laden with choices in pizza, veal, and chicken dishes. Try the mediterrano pizza pie, made with sun-dried tomatoes, spinach, portobello mushrooms, mozzarella and goat cheese. Or, the veal scaloppini ciabatta, with pepperoni, mushroom, red onions, green peppers, melted mozzarella, and dijonaise. Whatever you order, don’t forget to finish with a slice of tiramisu.
