An Irish Pub in the traditional sense of the term, Unicorn Pub on Eglinton lacks the kitsch of many of its local competitors. Dressed simply in burgundy awnings with dark tinted windows, this pub is one of a series of similar venues in the Midtown area, constituting something of a final destination on a neighbourhood Irish pub-crawl.
Tasty Irish Eats
Not known as “Yonge and Eligible” for nothing, this area is recognized for its extraordinary numbers of young, single, and upwardly mobile men and women who like to unwind after a long day at the office. Places like the Unicorn offer not only an excellent selection of beers both on tap and in bottles, but also fruitier concoctions, and have a reasonable selection of wines to choose from. Their menu, of course, focuses on Irish pub classics such as Irish rover pie, shepherd’s pie, steak and kidney pie, roast beef sandwiches au jus, and bangers and mash. It also, however, extends far beyond just those, with a wide selection of entrées including a mushroom alfredo, fresh Atlantic tuna, and a California melt sandwich. There is surely something to appease everyone.
Action Packed
Every night of the week features different entertainment at this pub, making it a good last stop for a bar crawl. Amateur performers can be enjoyed at the Open Jams on Sundays and Wednesday, or karaoke on Mondays. For those with a competitive streak in them, there’s a Dart League on Tuesdays. Finally, there’s live entertainment on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
