Profile

Fast food is not quite the right expression
For a teeny-tiny mostly take-away joint along the Dupont strip, The Annex Hodgepodge is doing something right. A quick service eatery equipped with four seats along the street side bar window, the majority of the space is filled with Hodgepodge’s glass counter which displays some of its ready-made fare. The word “Enjoy” is found above the exit amid shelves of leaning books, modern vases, and hanging baskets of fresh bread and produce. Though slight, the Hodgepodge space is brimming with charm.

The hungry & hasty
Catering to the on-the-go crowd, plenty of quick options are available for the hungry and hasty. A duo of steaming pots behind the counter contain the curried carrot and ginger soup, as well as the soup du jour (which span sweet broccoli, zucchini with dill, split pea, hot spinach, spicy sweet potato, mushroom barley, and red lentil). Salads by the half or whole order provide choices in caesar with asiago cheese, spinach with cranberries, almonds, candied pecans, and brie, or the whopping greek pasta with chopped carrots, bell peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, water chestnuts, sundried tomatoes, red onions, and Macedonian feta. Pre-made vegan rotis are given a grilling and are served stuffed with chickpeas, lentil and spinach, as well as Caribbean and East Indies style. Tuna salad and egg salad sandwiches are ready to go anytime.

Less rushed options
For those who have the time to wait just a couple minutes can opt for one of five gourmet grilled sandwiches. Named after some of the side streets in the Annex, these heroes are served on swiss or multigrain triangles, and are available a la carte or with soup or salad. One popular pick is The Madison, filled with grilled chicken breast, tomatoes and sundried tomatoes, havarti and chipotle mayo. Other options include The Brunswick (prosciutto and swiss), The Albany (smoked turkey, swiss, avocado aioli), The Walmer (roast beef and caramelized onions), and The Kendal (grilled eggplant, zucchini, roasted red peppers, asiago). With vegan and non-vegan desserts to boot, The Annex Hodgepodge is also equipped with an ice cream window for fast and convenient gelato.
