More than a century of sartorial tradition can be explored within the walls of Stollery’s, which focuses on luxury clothing for men, with not a pair of jeans in sight. Suits, ties, shirts and socks are the dominant essentials, along with a third floor dedicated to women. The store features elegant corduroy, dress pants and outerwear for both genders, with an emphasis on imported European labels.
Full Wardrobe
The turn of the century façade at Stollery’s extends to the paneled walls and gold-plated fittings within the store. Tailored shirts are made by designers such as Daks, Aquascutum and Jaguar, plus business suits by Daks and Scabal. The basement is filled with outerwear from the likes of Barbour and Burberry, perfect for fox hunting on an autumn’s day or powerwalking with a latte. The store’s offerings are aimed at conservatively dressed older gents, with an emphasis on traditional fits and pleats, with the suit selection covering a wide range of sizes.
English Design
Stollery’s first opened its doors in 1901, when the corner of Yonge and Bloor was considered a remote part of Toronto, but proprietor Frank Stollery persevered in selling his custom-made shirts and bowler hats. The intersection gradually became a centre for local fashion, and the store has retained its uniquely British aesthetic, which includes an annual promotion where high tea is served in store.
