Both solo jumps and Tandem skydiving are provided to first-timers looking for the thrill of a freefall. Located at Baldwin Airport, just 40 minutes north of the city, the Parachute School of Toronto operates weekends and holidays throughout the year, from Thursday through Monday in summer and specific weekdays in spring and fall. But the school is also open to making arrangements on days they don’t normally fly, too. More people have chosen the PST for their first jump than any other school in Toronto, and the school’s safety record is verifiably excellent.
Altitude Without Attitude
No reservations or deposits are required for jumping on days when the Parachute School is open for business and the price of that solo leap is lowest during the winter. Reservations are recommended for Tandem jumps, with the opportunity to upgrade to an extra 1,000 feet of altitude. And purchasing a package of 17 jumps allows for the progression from working with an instructor to achieving a self-supervised certificate. Going solo the first time around is possible after taking a five-hour course – covering how to open the parachute and land safely. With instructions transmitted from the ground, all the details necessary for a peaceful ride come over the radio and a gentle drop zone landing is assured. A film of the jump is then available for instant reviewing.
Clearing the Days
Weather is always a factor in safe skydiving and the Parachute School of Toronto does everything possible to work around unfavourable conditions. If there isn’t an opportunity to follow a beginner course with a jump, it can be done anytime within the next 60 days without retraining, a refresher session is provided. The school recommends showing up first thing in the morning if a return visit is unlikely, or you’re itching to jump on that specific milestone day.
