Pleased to unite old and new worlds, Orizzonte Restaurant is a touch of aged Italy in the newer confines of Toronto’s uptown. Decorated with picturesque murals depicting Old-world vineyards and architecture, checkered tablecloths and featuring a host of traditional meals, there’s nothing at Orizzonte to surprise other than the adherence to history.
Sing For Your Supper
Family owned and operated, the home-style approach to atmosphere and dinnertime cuisine makes for an unforgettably ambient meal…provided one can sing. With a regular minstrel wandering about the premises, many diners have been known to either break into song or be coerced towards it, mouth full or not. Then again, there are the patrons who opt to chew slowly and avoid the spotlight. Regardless, this live music is one of the simpler elements that establishes a jovial, familial setting at Orizzonte. The owner/musician is an internationally renowned musician. Seating customers in the dining room, he also serenades them throughout a leisurely evening meal.
Tasting The Tradition
With such attention to detail, it’s no wonder that Orizzonte’s menu is classically Italian. Pastas such as spaghetti, linguine and fettuccine can be prepared in standard methods or with interesting twists (such as vodka-infused penne and gorgonzola-treated gnocchi). Risotto dishes share menu space with seafood, chicken, steak and a dozen varieties of in-house pizza with a vast array of toppings making for a deliciously difficult evening of choice. Of course if one of the multiple pre-ordained pizzas doesn’t tickle the fancy, parties may opt to create their own and vegetarians are well-cared for here. Decisions are no easier with Orizzonte’s succinct dessert menu which reveals even more traditional delicacies such as tiramisu, tartufo and a divine pineapple cheesecake. Naturally, the strongest complement to any meal would include a beverage, of which Orizzonte specializes in wines and various coffees.
