Omg burgers!
Found on an itty-bitty street bordering on Yonge, Original Motorcycle Gourmet Burgers has joined the wave of higher-end fast food joints that are sweeping the Toronto area. Yes, OMG Burgers is brought to us by the same Fuss Cooper, the one behind the Original Motorcycle clothing label and the Indian Motorcycle cafe. Branching out into the burger realm, and not without the biker kitsch, this diner-esque shop is decked out in vintage motorcycle art, black banquettes, and flaming wheels are etched onto the glass of the front window.
The home of the ‘original’ steak burger
Although rivalling a motley of ‘gourmet burger’ shops in the area, OMG Burgers’ claim to fame is its original steak burger, ground fresh on site with AAA steak. Never frozen, these burgers aren’t heavy like their ground beef counterparts and less fatty since the oils burn off on the grill. Seven of these steak burgers line the menu, all served on a sesame seed bun with a choice of “original fries”, sweet potato fries, or caramelized onion rings. The usual suspects of banquet (cheddar, sugar-cured bacon), the Philly (mozzarella, sautéed mushrooms, grilled onions), and double cheese (Monterey jack and cheddar) are duly on board, while more adventurous choices span pesto (sundried tomato, feta cheese), tex mex (salsa, guacamole), and the valley (grilled zucchini, goat cheese, red and green peppers). For the veg-heads, OMG Burgers serves a veggie patty option that can be dressed up just like its steak brethren.
Tastes like chicken
For white meat, the original chicken burgers provide another seven options for your perusal. Worthy mentionables include the jerk (mango salsa and jerk sauce), the yakitori (grilled onions, teriyaki sauce, red and green onions), the breaded Italian (tomato sauce, jalapenos), the Cali (grilled zucchini, sundried tomato, guacamole), and the quesadilla (salsa, Monterey jack and cheddar). Beyond burgers, there’s also fussy wings, tossed in BBQ, teriyaki, or jerk.
