The decor of the Ocean Grill Restaurant is meant to transport patrons to a Caribbean beach under the hot sun. Palm tree decals cover the front window. There are tropical plants inside. One entire wall is devoted to a mural of beach, palms trees and a turquoise ocean. Another painting shows islanders on a beach, tending to a barbecue. Open since 2004, the restaurant offers take-out and delivery. It also caters wedding receptions and other special events.
Authentic Jamaican Food
Ocean Grill has a large menu, devoted entirely to authentic Jamaican fare. Chicken seems to be the specialty: there are half a dozen different ways you can have it, including jerk, fried, barbecued, baked and stewed. There are the Jamaican standards like stew beef and oxtail. But there are also some more adventurous dishes like tripe and beans and cow foot. Snapper, king fish, shrimp and lobster are made to order, either stewed or steamed. There is an impressive variety of soup available, including goat head soup and red pea soup.
Island Breakfast
Ocean Grill does breakfast the way it's done on the island. Forget about bacon and eggs. Instead, try mackerel or ackee and salt fish. This latter meal is the national dish of Jamaica. Ocean Grill also serves the popular dish callaloo, a mix of vegetables, seafood, coconut milk, okra and other seasonings. Breakfast dishes come with plantains, boiled dumplings and yams. Of course, if you're not up for mackerel or callaloo, you can always stick with porridge.
