A hub for everything that’s cultured and creative about the west Parkdale district, Mitzi’s Sister provides a classic atmosphere for live music and DJs, with the work of local artists adorning the walls, and an abundant menu. Singer-songwriters frequent the stage, while other areas – including the outdoor patio – allow for conversation to flow along with the food and drink. The old sign of the Tennessee Tavern keeps the space connected with the rough-hewn legacy of the area, even though the interior offers a vibrant warmth characteristic of 21st century Parkdale.
Creative Kitchen
The regular menu at Mitzi’s incorporates plenty of original ideas amidst the comfort foods. For starters, oven roasted chicken wings are served with unique sauces, the mile high nachos include house made refried beans and chipotle tomato salsa, and the soup of the day is served with fresh pada bread. Salads combine grilled vegetables with feta cheese, baby spinach, or marinated beets served with warm couscous, pecan encrusted chevre and Riesling soaked Granny Smith apples. Mains include a black bean burrito, beer battered fish and chips, Mitzi’s signature chicken tenders, falafel and a house pasta comprised of fettuccini toasted in an almond, mint and parsley pesto. Burgers are also an option, whether beef, lamb or portobello caps, topped with flavourful vegetables.
Spectacular Brunch
Weekend brunch might be what Mitzi’s Sister has become most famous for. The oatmeal pancakes with rum and pineapple syrup, omelettes wrapped around chicken and mango chutney and poached eggs on a bed of cornmeal polenta are among the legendary offerings. Mitzi’s Café and Gallery, located nearby on residential 100 Sorauren Ave., serves up a similar menu each day of the week, until the Sister opens in late afternoon to serve up her transcendent bar food.
