A taste of the churrasco
A traditional Portuguese kitchen, Mario’s BBQ Grill & Takeout offers Mississaugians a taste of the churrasco. Mario’s BBQ Grill specializes in rotisserie chicken and suckling pig, and provides an upscale casual space to dine on their Bairrada style fare. Located within a free-standing building in the heart of the city, the interior is quite large and decorated with an apparent fondness for geometry—the walls are adorned with an amalgamation of wooden paneling and mirrors in the form of triangles and diamonds, while various pentagonal-shaped windows feature stained-glass florals.

The mediterranean diet
Since Portugal is a seafaring nation, the menu at Mario’s BBQ Grill reflects this with plenty of seafood options. For starters, Mario’s shrimp with a lemon garlic and pepper sauce, clams Spanish-style with onions and peppers in tomato sauce, and calamari rings are some of the appetizing plates. A trio of specialty codfish plates are proffered, in grilled, shredded, or deep-fried varieties. From the grill, grouper, lobster, jumbo shrimp, prawns, salmon, and squid are among the fruits de mer selection, as are fillet of sole, breaded shrimp, and seafood kebabs. There’s even seafood platters at Mario’s, fit for two people, which provides a medley of a feast.

From the barbeque
Then there’s the barbequed meat, and Mario’s serves up plenty of dishes from the homeland. Try the Portuguese style steak, topped with ham, a fried egg, with a pala pala (an African chilli pepper) and brandy sauce. If that’s a little too decadent for you, there’s New York, filet mignon, pepper, and T-bone steak as well. For pork, the Alantejana is marinated in wine sauce, seared and cubed, while baby back ribs, medallions, and Madeira shish kebab are also on board.
