Marcel’s menu has a slight southern influence, offering dishes that remind diners of sun-soaked fields in Corsica. Tables are topped with white linen and the walls are covered with gilt-framed mirrors and painted scenes of European cities. Marcel’s also does custom menus for lunch and dinner parties. Lunch and Dinner Differences
Marcel’s has separate lunch and dinner menus, but many of the appetizers remain the same throughout the day. Start with bruschetta, the soup of the day, a Caesar salad, or mussels in a cream sauce made with white wine and herbs. Warm up your salad by ordering the baby spinach dish, complete with oyster mushrooms, grilled apple and melted Roquefort cheese. Some of the lunch mains include veal escalope with potato gratin and peppercorn, grilled sea scallops with wild rice pilaf and passion fruit and the daily seafood special. The dinner menu has a few additions like the chicken roulade with Emmenthal, proscuitto and an herbal demi-glace and the grilled Alberta beef tenderloin with Auvergne gratin and Cognac-Madagascar peppercorn. It wouldn’t be French if presentation wasn’t part of the experience; Marcel’s plates are delicately arranged to show off the colours and textures of the food.
Conjure up Your Inner Sommalier
Of course, to complete the picture you’ll need a glass of wine. Marcel’s massive wine cellar is fully stocked with French wines but you can also order select wines from Chile, Niagara and California. When you’re done with the main dish, try a glass off the dessert wine list or ask for the dessert menu. You can order a selection of fine cheeses or go the traditional route and try the crème brulee or the chocolate mousse cake, complete with whiskey sauce.
