Specialists in antique silver and antique jewelry, Louis Wine is a true living legacy, with roots in Ireland dating back to 1879 when the present owner’s great-great grandfather moved from Lithuania to Ireland. Louis Wine catered to collectors from a shop on Grafton Street in Dublin, where the world’s leading silver collectors sought advice and purchased additions to their collections.
Museum Store
Louis Wine’s descendants moved the family business to Toronto in 1982, and the current gallery in Yorkville maintains a constant display of fine period silver, old Sheffield and plated metal wares, and antique jewelry from the 18th century through the early 20th century. The store offers full appraisals, repair and restoration services, and facilitates commission purchases. The cases might appear to be a museum exhibit to a first time visitor, but all the pieces are available to be tried on, including brooches with cameo, animal and classic gemstones, plus bracelets, pendants, necklaces, cufflinks, earrings and rings.
Legendary Clientele
Representing over 125 years of history, Louis Wine has served clients like William Randolph Hearst, Prince Ranier and Princess Grace of Monaco, the Getty and duPont families, and assorted heads of state, prime ministers, and representatives of museums and governments. Now in its fourth generation of business, the company regularly participates in shows around the globe, connecting their knowledge and experience to the world’s greatest collectors.
