The revitalization of the Parkdale district can be felt within the walls of Lot 16, renovated from greasy spoon origins into an open-concept bar space. Regulars reflect the creative diversity of the neighbourhood, from residents of nearby artist lofts, new condos and the older Victorian homes. The area’s evolution into a hotbed for galleries and live entertainment has supplied this intimate space with a sense of energy and enthusiasm, reflected on the local art pieces filling the walls.
Sound Surroundings
The well-stocked Lot 16 bar provides the full range of beer, wine, liquor and cocktails, augmented by a menu of tapas items. The soundtrack is provided by unpretentious music playlists ranging from upbeat Britpop to moody jazz, along with thematic DJ nights. Many of the regular patrons have put down roots in Parkdale, recalling when the space was still known as the Elvis Restaurant, before the era of West Queen West gentrification. The owners are dedicated to retaining an authentically bohemian environment, satisfying patrons who prefer to hang out off the beaten path. The bar, named after its position on the city of Toronto lot survey map, also features free Internet furnished by Wireless Toronto.
Parkdale Legend
The Village of Parkdale was built as an elite residential suburb, one that found itself on the wrong side of the tracks through the later years of the 20th century. Post-millennium, the setting has undergone a revival process that has solidified its status as an eclectically eccentric part of the city. A passion for life in the downtown Toronto core has been reinvigorated during this time. The personalities who have contributed most earnestly to that transformation can likely be seen enjoying the social rewards of their effort over drinks at Lot 16.
