This classy King Street eatery has a beautiful view of Toronto’s sculpture gardens and St. James Cathedral. This is just one of the many qualities that lends the restaurant to parties and special occasions, and one of the reasons La Maquette offers its space and specialty chefs for weddings and corporate events. Ceremonies may take place indoors or outside, in front of the waterfall at St. James. La Maquette supplies couples with lists of recommended, reliable vendors to choose from. In terms of corporate functions, the restaurant can be reserved for an all-inclusive price when guests number over 100.
Apps, Entrees and Everything in Between
Appetizers include soft shell crab with fried plantain and wasabi, scallops with corn relish and sweet potato chips, shrimp tempura and a handful of soups and salads. La Maquette does about a dozen pasta dishes for lunch, both veggie and meaty. Their entrees include pan-seared sea bass with ginger, fennel and tarragon and Muscovy duck and ostrich loin with roasted shallots, passion fruit, cranberry sauce and red Daikon. During dinner, you can try such appetizers as the wild mushroom strudel with leek and spinach cream sauce, then follow it up with a rack of lamb rubbed with roasted pumpkin seeds and served in blackberry and apple ice wine reduction. The dessert menu caters to all palates, with chocolate, ice cream and fruit-based options like caramel apple crumble, poached pear and almond tart, and chocolate raspberry tartuffo.
Don’t Go Dry
La Maquette has a long list of wines from all over the world, many of which can be ordered by the glass or by the bottle, and the bar is well-stocked with champagne, ice, dessert and sparkling wines, cognacs and beers. Bartenders can shake up any kind of mixed drink or specialty coffee you’re hankering after and there’s even some port and grappa on deck!
