This is as close to fresh French cheese as you can get without hopping a plane to Provence or strolling the boulevards of Paris. Located on College Street far enough west to be beyond Little Italy and within the much larger, more nebulous region of Little Portugal, La Fromagerie brings a uniquely French feel to College West that has hitherto been unknown. La Fromagerie's unique Francophile obsession extends as far as the stereo speakers which are as likely to be playing Edith Piaf. Their love also extends to rare and pungent cheeses, expressed in their obsessive attention to keeping only the best and most notable in stock.
Dinner Party Dress Up
A great way to dress up any dinner party, be it one that you yourself are hosting or one you're merely attending, the right cheese can make all the difference in a meal. This store features cheeses so rare and wonderful that their pedigree requires a feat of storytelling to send you on your way with it. Incidentally, La Fromagerie doesn't stop at the dairy incidentally. The store also carries boutique condiments, sauces, dressings, candies, vinegars, oils and spices.
The Perfect End to a Classic Meal
The perfect end to a classic French based meal, a great selection of cheeses, served on their own or with some bread, say, from Pain Perdu (incidentally where La Fromagerie gets their bread delivered fresh from, daily) is a rich finale to a rich evening. Carrying almost exclusively cheese produced by boutique creameries in Quebec and France, La Fromagerie has done the footwork for you. You just have to get to them to find the fruits of their labour.
