Profile Last Updated: May 15, 2009
A new updated contemporary Mediterranean menu designed by executive chef Lynn Crawford of the Four Seasons and a contemporary black and white décor that attracts a trendy clientele, Kokkino Restaurant and Lounge is elevating Greektown from souvlaki central to a hip hot spot.
Finger-Friendly Tapas and Mains with a Mediterranean Kick
Kokkino’s recently revived menu features dishes such as a seared truffle-infused chicken breast and sesame crusted tilapia, as well as other tempting pasta and pizza dishes. The appetizer menu features finger-friendly tapas platters like antipasto, cheese and dip platters (tzatziki, taramosalata, hummus and tirokafteri) served with pita. The appetizer menu is the only spot on the menu you’ll find traditional Greek favourites like spanakopita, kolokithokeftedes and keftedes. Mains veer into much more modern territory and include pizzas, grilled meat and pasta dishes with an updated Mediterranean flare. The drink menu is martini-focused, with a dozen or so varieties, as well as an upscale wine and cocktail list that are heavy on the booze and will put a dent in your wallet.
Live Music Five Nights a Week
From Wednesday to Saturday night, Kokkino hosts a live DJ who spins a mix of retro 1970’s and 1980’s music starting at 10:00 p.m., followed by modern Greek music after midnight. On Sunday, the music of choice is all Greek.
