Profile Last Updated: May 15, 2009
Founded in 1986, Il Fornello is a chain of nine restaurants in the GTA, Oakville and Richmond Hill known for custom-ordered wood-oven pizzas and pastas. In addition to a slew of pre-designed gourmet thin crust pizzas served on regular, multigrain, spelt or gluten-free Quejos crust, you can also build your own pizza from a handful of ingredients. They also feature a number of pastas and other entrées, like steak and mash, Atlantic salmon and sirloin burgers.
Allergic to Something? No Problem!
Il Fornello offers an Alternative Menu to guests with special dietary needs. The menu features wheat-free, yeast-free, dairy-free and gluten-free options for pizza and pasta-lovers with challenging allergies. The Danforth location offers a weekday buffet lunch as well as weekend brunch from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and they accept reservations every day accept Friday and Saturday evenings.
Pasta the Time
Pizza and Pasta naturally dominate Il Fornello’s menu of Italian cuisine. While you can order a traditional pizza (with tomato sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni and mushrooms), the more adventurous customers opt to try one of the 20 alternates, including a smorgasbord of tastes. You’ll find vegetarian options like the pizza santo (with spelt flour crust, herbs, spinach, red onions, peppers and soy cheese topping) and pizza gorgonzola (with the title cheese, caramel pears, caramelized onions and walnuts) and a horde of meat-laced tastes, with everything from smoked chicken and prosciutto ham to spicy Italian and chorizo sausage.
Make Your Own
When creating your own pizza, toppings range in price and feature epicurean tastes like mascarpone and Buffalo mozzarella. A few dozen pastas are served with customary tomato sauce or a number of cream sauces like Vodka, pesto and Chardonnay saffron, covering countless lasagna, spaghetti, fettuccini and linguini combinations.
