Formerly an aircraft hangar for the De Havilland Aircraft Company and later the Canadian military, The Hangar has been Toronto’s premier facility for indoor soccer since 1998. Along with soccer leagues for adults and kids, competitive and recreational volleyball games are always on the agenda too. The indoor beach allows for sand castle building, Ultimate Frisbee, football, and other games too. Birthday parties include time on the field or court, along with a pizza or picnic lunch. Open all year, The Hangar is constantly buzzing with tournaments, camps, and people of all ages just dropping in to play around.
Canada’s Urban Utopia
The site of The Hangar has been redeveloped in recent years, towards creating Canada’s first national urban park. A space for indoor soccer and recreation is just one part of a broader plan. This plan will bring nature and recreation to what was previously a large field inaccessible to the public. A film studio on the site has added to its cultural significance, and concerts are a summertime staple.
Order on the Courts
The Hangar is available to rent, allowing groups to play everything from paintball to rugby to aerobics and impact training. Locker rooms with showers, bleacher seating and food kiosks are all built into the setting. Play areas include four turf fields and five indoor beach volleyball courts. The renewed enthusiasm for soccer in Canada is the main draw of this place, whether it’s young people playing games or adult pros perfecting their kicks.
