The smaller side of the Gap stores can be found in several standalone GapKids locations, which feature the same casual clothing and sense of style that older folks have been wearing since 1969. A new wave of styles move through the store each season, giving parents the opportunity to outfit their kids in the latest looks that they’re destined to outgrow.
GapKids provides essentials on a budget. You can find a wide variety of clothing, including jeans, pants, shorts, T-shirts, polos, outerwear, socks and underwear. There are also dresses, skirts, capris, tanks and swimwear. In addition, school uniform items are available, made of a spill-proof and durable fabric, with an adjustable waist. Dressy styles are designed in a fashion that lets kids be kids, and each summer brings a heap of cool clothing perfect for camp, by the pool, or at the beach.
New merchandise is constantly moving into GapKids, and the just slightly older items are available at reduced prices, in the Gap tradition. The Gap has been a North American staple since the early 1990s, meaning that many of today’s parents also grew up wearing its khakis and other private label clothing. The first GapKids store opened in 1986 in San Mateo, California, and other locations have opened in many of the malls that also contain a traditional Gap and babyGap.
