Custom floral design studio Earthwork was the brainchild of Bert Browne, who takes orders over the phone or meets with clients by appointment. But despite the method of contact, he will ensure that orders as modest as a dozen long-stem roses are delivered with the same attention to detail as a ballroom full of bouquets. The company has also worked with large retailers, and furnished the most elegant private parties at local homes.
Earthwork specializes in modern arrangements; the bouquets and greenery created for homeowners follow the recent “hotel chic” design trend, where the arrangements are clean, polished and trendy. The arrangements frequently use a single orchid in order to make a single statement. The designs often incorporate diverse materials like fruits and vegetables, and the bouquets for Thanksgiving and Christmas have featured edible elements like juicy red apples and eggplant.
The company does more than just floral arrangements, as Bert Browne has worked with plants ranging from small tropicals to a group of towering seven-foot ficus trees. Depending on the desired look, plants are sometimes a preferred option, as their life span lasts longer than cut flowers. The displays from Earthwork have been featured in stores like Holt Renfrew and Club Monaco, along with venues like Hotel Le Germain and the Gardiner Museum.
