For a country that proudly trumpets its bilingual, multicultural status, French restaurants certainly seem to be a relative rarity outside of Quebec especially in Toronto where Indian and sushi spots have become very popular. With few French restaurants to choose from, grabbing a quick bite at Crepes A Gogo is a delight. A true Parisian outpost near the University of Toronto campus, Crepes A Gogo serves up an astounding array of crepes (surprise, surprise) to students, business people, and pretty much anyone looking for a delectable and portable French treat.
“Je Voudrais la Popeye, S’il Vous Plait!”
Patrons are encouraged, if they’re able, to order at Crepes A Gogo in French. In fact, half the fun of dining there is watching Anglophone Torontonians stumble over their nasal N’s, while trying to recall high school French classes they slept through years earlier. But fear not, the amiable staff are always willing to switch over to English for patrons who wouldn’t know an “accent aigu” if it struck them “dans la tête”.
Build Your Own
The emphasis at Crepes A Gogo is on fresh, light and summery ingredients. The chefs use only market-bought fruits and vegetables, and they collectively shudder at the mention of dried herbs or processed cheese. Although the menu features over 25 different varieties of crepes, creative patrons are encouraged to build their own delectable combination from scratch. Those lacking imagination, however, can always settle for a crepe Veronique—filled with baby spinach, strawberries, maple syrup and brie. Crepes A Gogo also offers traditional French sparkling apple cider, by the glass or the bottle, as a perfect compliment to any dish.
