Breakfast Bargains
Located on Clinton Street, just off Bloor West, Caplansky’s claim to fame is that they salt, cure and smoke all their own meat. Besides an all-day breakfast menu (including bagels and lox, salami and eggs served with latkes and toast, and steak and eggs), the deli has one of the hottest lunch menus in the city.
A trio of soups (matzoh ball, cabbage borscht and a daily special) provide the perfect side to your choice of chopped liver on challah, versht on rye, or a bagel and cream cheese combo. Try the fresser — a mammoth lunch dish that piles 13 ounces of meat on fresh-baked bread.
The Dinner Bell
Dinner is served from 5 p.m to close. Grab an Ontario beef ribsteak, BBQ braised beef brisket with onions and tomatoes, or one of a handful of traditional Jewish mains. The knish is a meat-filled puff pastry, while the kishka is a beef intestine stuffed with matzoh meal, veggies, schmaltz and spices.
Live Music
Depending on the evening, you might even catch a band or two with your supper. Call ahead to ask about live music.
