Bringing Europe to Canada
If you thought College Street was the only place to find true Italian, think again. Owner Rosa Muscillo opened King Street West’s Caffino in 1997 to satisfy her own longing for an authentic Italian experience in Toronto.
Fancy Fine Dining
The restaurant is divided up into four main sections –the patio, the courtyard, the bar area and the dining room. The bar is a warm, inviting space with brick walls, exposed wooden beams, skylights and a few tables. Mexican-style hand-woven rugs combined with the red-legged checker top tables and brightly painted door and window frames give the bar a bit of a southwest feel. If you’re up for something a little fancier, try the main dining room. Its sky-high ceilings and wrought-iron gas lamps create an air of decadence. Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the room with natural light, illuminating elaborate wall sconces and highlighting the high-backed silver chairs. A heavily curtained bar plays up the Victorian feel of the main room.

Just because the restaurant is a little off the beaten path doesn’t mean it’s not worth going out of your way for. Just ask Michael Douglas, Maya Angelou, James Woods or Sofia Coppola. All these A-listers and more have noshed at Caffino Inc. The portabello mushroom salad is a favourite starter and is well followed by the Seafood Medley, the exclusive Pasta Caffino or the Pizza Antoinetta. The restaurant is available for weddings, corporate events and special occasions. Reservations are recommended for evenings.
