What a breath of fresh air The Bloor Street Diner is. It is unpretentious, uncluttered, and decorated in the sunny, warm, and rustic tones of Provence, France. All these things combined provide its menu with its inimitable flair. The restaurant is shockingly inexpensive considering the neighbourhood it calls home. It is a Toronto classic and each meal eaten proves again exactly why that is the case.
This Joint is Jumping
With a prix-fixe menu with specials changing daily, and with the whole operation running day and night, all of your eating needs can be accommodated with a reservation at The Bloor Street Diner. Peak times are definitely weekend brunches, with the full complement of breakfast favourites such as omelettes, crepes, pancakes, and eggs Benedict, as well as weekend dinners. However, the place is hopping all week long. Their rotisserie selections are both popular and affordable. A take out counter faces the interior of the Manulife Centre’s shopping concourse is a popular place for salads and sandwiches.
No One Does Food Like the French
The menu is certainly eclectic but undeniably favours Provencale French flavours. Favourites include Nicoise and Warm Goat Cheese Salad, Moules Frites, Steak Frites. Even their extensive wine list – much of it available by the glass – comes from the sunny South of France. And where else in Toronto would you expect to find Grilled Calves Liver on the menu? The Bloor Street Diner is casual enough to feel comfortable no matter what you’ve ordered, yet classy enough to take a date or a group tp for a special occasion. It also has a two tiered raised side patio with a superb view of Bay Street near Bloor.
