The big sister to Bar Wellington is located just behind the Bloor St. West joint on cozy Prince Arthur St. The patio is big enough to handle throngs of diners and drinkers, and also makes for a scenic dining experience, stationed outside the classic building and positioned inside tall hedges. Bedford is really a bar, a pub and a bistro all in one. It’s casual but always fun.
Faux Library is Fun
On the inside, the Academy is a frat house, like something out of Road Trip or The Skulls. Real and fake books line the walls, and the modern home layout makes each room feel like more of a study than a bar. In fact, it’s sometimes easy to forget that you’re in a bar at all. As you wander through the building, the feeling isn’t unlike actually being inside someone’s home. There is of course the fact that you will meet tons of new people and have a much better stocked bar than most homes.
The Key is Space
The key to this restaurant is space. Each table, inside or out, can seat about 10 people. Due to its location, just steps from swanky Yorkville, the Academy often hosts the upper crust of pub goers. During the school year, moreover, it is as popular as any other Annex-area bar with students. And if you’re looking for space, it really doesn’t get much bigger than this.
