Head west along Wellington Street towards Portland and you may notice that the steel, glass and concrete cocoons of high-end bars are often indistinguishable from the advertising firms they rub shoulders with. When you hit Portland, however, you’ll find the northeast corner is home to a charming edifice of brown brick, made particularly quaint by the building’s close proximity to its modern neighbours. If not for the beer logos, you’d just as likely assume Bar Wellington dealt in sweets rather than spirits.
Three Floors of Old World Charm
Climbing the steps up and into Bar Wellington reveals the first of three floors patrons can take advantage of. Within an old world sense of structure, clustered wooden tables – offset by framed posters and pressed tin ceilings – add to classic pub appeal, And if the weather is warm, the laid back charm of the indoors extends to two patios.
Classic Choices and Classic Architecture
Fitting its European pub aesthetic perfectly, Bar Wellington offers visitors a wide range of beers and spirits. To balance the beverages, a selection of pub grub is offered, including pizza, burgers, chicken strips and mixed greens. Come by on Saturday and Sunday for a relaxing brunch with choices like eggs benedict or a grilled steak sandwich.
