First Visions
The intersection of Queen and Ossington is full of venues where visual art is exhibited, but AWOL Gallery Studios got there first in 1999, with their unique approach to the process. The gallery is run by a collective who provide an exhibiting space for artists alongside affordable studios, and that mixture of creative forces helps to perpetuate a steady flow of innovative visual artwork.

Square Foot
AWOL Gallery Studios traditionally holds three open studio shows and three grand annuals per year. The most prominent of those exhibitions is Square Foot, showcasing the work of hundreds of local and international artists who create a work in a 12x12 inch format that is hung in a grid, creating an installation of overwhelming proportions. The sheer diversity of artists from around the world makes for a dynamic group show, and each of the pieces are economically priced, giving galleries and collectors an opportunity to discover new talent.

Collaborative Spirit
The exhibition projects curated by AWOL Gallery have extended beyond the West Queen West area, to art fairs across Toronto and New York City, including a parallel Square Foot Williamsburg event held in Brooklyn. The spirit of collaboration keeps the gallery running, with new artists constantly passing through the studios, leading to their efforts taking a place on the gallery walls.
