With the same five cakes being sold everywhere from high-end, established bakeries to supermarkets, cake shops that have unique creations and no hint of assembly-line production can be hard to come by. In the tradition of small, neighbourhood bakeries that cater to local foot traffic, Altitude Baking provides a surprisingly vast selection of baked goods in a very small store.
Fresh-Baked Goodies with a Twist
The bakery has a selection of fresh-baked cake and cheesecakes (in regular and “baby” sizes, perfect for four to six people), lovingly displayed in a counter display case, just like bakeries of days gone by. Atop the counter sit tempting treats like squares, brownies, scones, and croissants. There are also fresh fruit pies, cream pies and tarts. Altitude has all of the expected goodies, and some creations are a clever spin on timeless classics like the passion fruit meringue pie and mango mousse tarts. Altitude Bakery also carries some ice cream from Greg’s Ice Cream.
Satisfy Your Savoury Tooth, Too
If your aim is bread, the bakery stocks fresh breads from Doughheads daily, as well as the Ace Bakery line (freshest stock is available on Saturdays), plus bread from St. John’s Bakery on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The bakery also carries Montreal style bagels from St. Urbain Bakery. Savoury treats like flaky, pastry-topped pot pies and sandwiches are on offer for those with a savoury (rather than sweet) tooth.
