The term “yoga” is a Sanskrit word over 5,000 years old, literally meaning “union” or “to yoke” and thus the goal of Five Elements Yoga & Pilates is to create a union between the mind, body, and spirit. The five elements – Warth, water, fire, air and ether – pervade all aspects of life and can be explored through yoga postures. The Earth element focuses on building a firm base of support, water on the circulatory system, fire on the internal heat generated by the body, and air on the breathing control, so the ether element is the increased consciousness of these things, a life-long process of evolution. Five Elements’ mission is to guide participants through this journey toward inner calm.
The Art of Control
Pilates is an exercise system that promotes the art of control. By way of focused concentration, movements are consciously controlled with precision and fluidity. Some of the benefits of pilates are longer, leaner muscles, core strengthening, improved balance and enhanced athletic performance. Along with eclectic yoga classes for all skill levels, Five Elements also combines yoga and pilates for some of their classes. YogaFusion, for example, blends yoga, pilates, Tai Chi and dance. Other classes include prenatal yoga, yoga for kids, as well as a meditation class that teaches breathing practices while learning about the chakras. Also available are private sessions, workshops, teacher training programs, Thai yoga massage, nutritional consulting, reflexology, reiki and therapeutic touch.
