Living Up to its Name
1,000,000 Comix has been in the business since 1989 and now boasts a gargantuan variety of new and used comic book titles. The Yonge Street store is densely packed with standard-sized white comic boxes, which are filled to the brim with 60-70,000 back-issue titles. Comic lovers can also find copies of every new release, popular or otherwise, assuming they have yet to sell out. However, unlike many other shops in the greater TO area, 1,000,000 Comix caters to Spidey fans and X-men addicts; they do not carry any role-playing and tradable cards.
Comic Books are for Boys
As a store dedicated to superheroes and demon hunters, 1,000,000 Comix’s patrons are 90% male. The store does offer a generous assortment of anime DVDs, which, alongside the magna selection and collectable toys, have more appeal for the female shoppers. The anime is kept in two glass cases in the back corner, where sample titles play in a TV up above.
Manic Wednesdays
Wednesdays are the busiest days of the week, as it is the release date of new comic books. 1,000,000 Comix manages to carry at least 50 copies of every new issue, including the more obscure titles, as new comics account for 50% of their business. The hottest sellers are the usual suspects – X-men, Batman, JLA and Ultimate Spider-Man. In addition to standard back issues, the shop boasts a variety of $1 and 25-cent comics. For a lifetime membership of $20, comic fanatics save 20% off everything in the store, except DVDs.
